Folk songs of the Jewish diaspora, from Eastern Europe, the Balkans, Caucasia and the Middle East, are re-configured for these two virtuosos. Although Lara St. John’s cultural background is that of a shiksa (Yiddish for a non-Jewish woman), she is able to capture to perfection the unique atmosphere of these evocative works. Concert presented in connection with the exhibition Chagall, Colour and Music at the MMFA.
